Marek Dabrowski was born on the 16th June 1955 in Lód?, Poland. He is married and has three daughters. He has Canadian and Polish citizenship.
Since January 2004, Marek Dabrowski is Managing Director of Hotel Atrium Sp. Z. o. o. in Warsaw, Poland. Hotel Atrium is the owner of the Warsaw Westin five star hotel, which is operated by Starwood. As Managing Director, Mr. Dabrowski is the representative of the majority shareholder (SPS Investment N. V.) of the company on Hotel Atrium’s Management Board and is responsible for all functions of a CEO, except for managing the hotel. Since 1996 he is also President and CEO of Polish Real Estate Fund (PREF). From March 2002 to December 2003, he worked as Head of Hotel Division – Central Europe for Colliers International, one of the largest real estate brookerage firms in the world with over 250 offices worldwide. Mr. Dabrowski is also, since 1986, President, CEO and major shareholder of International Idea Management Inc. in Newmarket, Ontario, a private consulting corporation involved in the development and operation of hotel enterprises and hotel consulting services to hotel owners and operators in Canada and Poland.
During the period from 1994 to 2001, he held the position of President and CEO of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), an investment company that invests in residential developments in Poland. From April 1999 to June 2000, Mr. Dabrowski served as a member of the Management Board of Global Hotels Development Group Poland S.A., a hotel developer corporation which develops and operates Holiday Inns hotels throughout Poland. He was also Vice-president and member of the Management Board of Polish-American Mortgage Bank of Warsaw, Poland, now GE Bank Mieszkaniowy (1995-1996).
Previously Mr. Dabrowski had worked as Corporate Controller for Cineplex Odeon Corporation, one of the largest cinema operators in North America (1984-1985); as Sole Practitioner in a public accounting practice in Newmarket, Ontario (1981-1994); as Manager of Taxation and Accounting for Redpath Industries Limited, Toronto (1981-1984) and as Senior Staff Accountant with Clarkson Gordon Chartered Accountants, now Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants, Toronto (1979-1981).
Mr. Dabrowski graduated from the University of Toronto with the degree of Bachelor of Science (1977) and from the University of Windsor, Ontario, with the degree of Bachelor of Commerce (1979). He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1981 and has been speaker in several international hotel and real estate conferences. He has also co-authored a handbook for real estate developers in Poland, called Inwetycje Developerskie (“Real Estate Development – Investment”), and has taught courses on real estate development in his country.
